Jacket Frost. For the past 10 years we have provided outerwear to Bow Valley children who have been referred to us by schools, churches and agencies such as FCSS, and Children’s Services. We began by seeking donations of gently-used winter wear from the community and trying to match those donations to the children in need of coats. Thanks to very generous donations over the past few years, this initiative as grown immensely. Because of sponsors—local businesses and individuals—we've been able to purchase new, good-quality jackets, snow pants and boots for kids, not only to keep them warm, but to help remove any stigma they may feel.
Many parents who work at jobs that provide services that are essential in our community—grocery stores, gas stations and hotels—are finding it increasingly more difficult to manage in the face of rising rent, increased fuel bills, high utility costs, and food prices that are constantly rising. These families have told us how thankful they are that we are able to bring together community support for programs like Jacket Frost and to know that people care about them and their children.
